New Book: A Whole New Kind of First Aid
Designed for Disaster, natural catastrophe, and terrorist attack. When emergency resources are overrun, Disaster First Aid is "What To Do When 911 Can’t Come."

SUMMARY: A New Disaster Preparedness Book and Course for average citizens, Simple enough for anyone to learn, but thorough enough to make a difference. NOT "standard" first aid. This is the only course that teaches what to do when normal Emergency Services are overwhelmed by massive numbers of injured and cannot immediately help everyone who needs immediate help. Created by a Firefighter, Training officer, and hospital E.R. caregiver with 15 years experience, this is the only first aid course that parallels and interfaces directly with the Disaster Plans & protocols used by Public Safety Agencies in California and most of the United States.

-------------------------------------------------------

THIS IS NOT STANDARD FIRST AID. “Standard” and Basic first aid will not be much help in a disaster because they are based on the assumption that Medical help will be available quickly. In a catastrophic disaster such as the major earthquake expected on the West Coast, that may be impossible. The wait for help in most areas is expected be from 24 hours to 3 days,

DISASTER FIRST AID IS SPECIFIC FOR DISASTER. The principles & techniques in this course follow the practices and protocols of California Public Safety agencies such as Police, Fire, and Paramedic Rescue, scaled down to the citizen’s level and ability. Presented in a clear logical way and written in plain non-medical language, this Disaster First Aid book is suitable for all ages from 14 to seniors, and adapts well to Community Disaster Preparedness programs. An "Instructor Kit" for teachers is also available from the publisher.

DISASTER FIRST AID IS THE FIRST professionally written, experience-based citizen-level First Aid course for large-scale emergency. The author of this unique course and book is a former Firefighter and Emergency Medical Officer, a registered Ca. State Fire Service (CFSTES) Regional Fire Instructor, and a currently practicing Hospital Emergency Department Technician with 15 years of hospital and field experience.

This course is used by the city of Oakland Fire Department for its C.O.R.E. Citizens Disaster Preparedness program. Disaster First Aid is one of the series of courses, which are free to all citizens of Oakland California. The Disaster First Aid course can also be self-learned from the book, or taught by non-professionals in communities. An “Instructor Kit” of teaching aids and materials is available from the publisher, Darkhorse Press.
