Disaster First Aid -
When 911 Can't Come

What will happen when there are so many casualties that 911 can't cover them all? The public will need to know how to do the most essential things to help themselves and each other.

Fire Dept. Public Education programs do save lives, and a few informed citizens can keep the spark of life going for others until help can reach them.

Disaster First Aid is a one-day course that contains ONLY the essential skills and information needed for saving the saveable lives. It's written in clear plain language, with no medical words, and no unrealistic expectations. Anyone can save lives and limbs, if they know these simple but critical things to do, and do them quickly.

This new course is based on the standard protocols of public safety agencies responding to multi-casualty incidents. It includes an Action Outline, and S.T.A.R.T. Rapid Triage, adapted to the citizen's level of ability and resources, as well as simple correct procedures for the most common kinds of trauma injuries and shock likely to occur in a disaster such as earthquake, explosion, or structure collapse.

The new Second Edition Instructor Kit and PowerPoint slide presentation makes the course easy to teach by Firefighters, EMTs, Police Officers and other Public Safety officers. Some Departments also train citizen Team Leaders to teach the course in their own neighborhoods and workplaces.

The Instructor Kit 2nd Edition
released January 2006
has 60 new visual aid slides and is available with either a PowerPoint presentation CD, or overhead projector masters.

Everything you need is provided in a user-friendly form. The Lesson Plan is set up in the California State Fire Marshal’s T-format familiar to many Company Officers. It is simple, clear, and compact. Each key point is referenced to its visual aid slide and book page.

The Instructor Kit also includes the Instructor Guideline, Task and Equipment Checklists, class forms, liability release forms, and a copyable brochure to advertise your classes and register your students.

Please Consider Disaster First Aid for your city's C.E.R.T. Disaster Response Public Education Program.

We're here to support your program and assist with your questions or orientation of your instructors if needed. If you would like more information, contact: Victoria at
